Phuket Tuk-Tuk Guide: Speed and Thrills, Mobile Disco, Thailand's Limousine!

🚗 Ride Experience

It’s a total blast! 👋 Tuk-tuks in Phuket are a bit different from those in other parts of Thailand. While most tuk-tuks are modified from three-wheelers, many here are converted from small trucks. The tuk-tuks have a high chassis, offering an open view, and with the roaring engine, you really feel the speed!

If you ride at night, the cabin is lit up with flashing lights, the music is pumping, and it’s like a moving disco, no joke! You can even connect your phone via Bluetooth and play your own music, making the experience even better.

Although the actual speed might not be that fast, the combination of the engine’s roar, loud music, and the feeling of racing through the streets will definitely get your adrenaline pumping! Want to capture this thrilling moment? Use the SpeedX app to display real-time speed and altitude, record your route, and create a trip card to share with your friends!

It’s not recommended as a daily mode of transportation, but it’s definitely a fun activity to try while exploring.

📍 Where to Find One?

You can usually find empty tuk-tuks waiting at popular spots like Patong Beach, Karon Beach Circle, Kata Beach, and Phuket Town. You can also hail one near hotel entrances or night markets.

💰 Price Reference

Phuket’s overall cost of living feels higher than other parts of Thailand, especially transportation. At places where tuk-tuks gather, there’s usually a price list posted. For example, I paid 200 THB for a 4 km ride from Karon to Kata at night, and I couldn’t negotiate it down 😭.
