Is Float Sequencer free? Do I need an account?
The current app is free to use. Open it in a browser to edit and play a project; there is no account or installation step. Beats, bass and melody sounds are synthesized in the browser rather than fetched from an external sample library.
Why is there no sound?
Press Play yourself: browsers normally require a user gesture before audio can start. Check the device volume, the tab’s mute setting and the app’s Master level. Then check that your pattern contains notes, the track volume is above zero and the track is not muted. A soloed track silences the other tracks.
If the app reports an audio error, try Play again in a browser with Web Audio support. Switching away from the page or a system audio interruption pauses playback; return to the page and resume manually.
Where are my projects saved?
Projects are automatically saved in this browser’s IndexedDB storage for the current website origin. They are not uploaded to a Float Sequencer server. Another browser, browser profile or device has a separate library. Clearing site data removes the local projects, and private browsing may not keep them after the session.
The header shows whether a project is saved, saving or could not be saved. Download the project JSON for an explicit backup; automatic browser storage is not a replacement for that file.
How do I back up a project or move it to another device?
Open Export and choose Save project JSON. Keep the downloaded file, transfer it to the other device and use Your projects → Import JSON there. JSON retains editable notes, sounds, patterns and arrangement. A WAV file contains the rendered sound and cannot restore the editable project.
Which project files can I import?
Import accepts validated Float Sequencer JSON projects in format v1 or v2, up to 1 MiB. The older fixed eight-track format is migrated explicitly. A valid import receives a new project ID, so it does not overwrite the original project.
An unsupported, damaged or oversized file is rejected while the current project remains available. MIDI files, samples and ordinary JSON from another music app are not supported imports.
What does WAV export include?
Choose the current pattern or the full arrangement in Export. Export WAV renders one pass using a snapshot taken when rendering begins, adds two seconds for effects and prepares a Download WAV button. You can keep editing while it renders.
The output is 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo PCM WAV. The extra tail and final fade mean it is not promised to be a seamless loop. An empty arrangement needs at least one pattern slot before it can be exported.
What can I do if audio export fails?
Try a shorter arrangement or export a single pattern, especially on a low-memory device. A maximum-length arrangement can reach about 130 seconds at 60 BPM, including the effect tail. Export failure does not change your notes; keep a JSON backup and retry.
Can I edit on a phone?
Yes. On narrow screens choose a track, then tap its 4 × 4 drum pads. A 32-step pattern has two pages of pads. Bass and melody use a horizontally scrollable pitch grid; zoom changes the vertical pitch spacing. Desktop and phone controls edit the same project model.
How many tracks, patterns and bars can I use?
A project has one to eight tracks and eight patterns, A–H. Each pattern has 16 or 32 sixteenth-note steps: one or two bars in fixed 4/4. The arrangement has up to 16 slots, and each slot can reference any pattern.
Each track can be a drum voice, monophonic bass or four-voice melody. Repeated instruments are allowed on separate tracks. Tempo runs from 60 to 200 BPM and Swing from 0 to 60%.
Does it support MIDI, recording or imported samples?
The current version does not include MIDI input/output or MIDI file export, microphone recording, sample import, plugins or automation. The available exports are the editable project JSON and rendered WAV. If you need to continue in a DAW, you can import the WAV as audio there.
Does it work offline or synchronize with the cloud?
After the page and its assets have loaded, playing and rendering the current project do not require a network request. The app does not currently provide an installable offline mode that guarantees a fresh visit without a connection. There is no account, cloud library or automatic device synchronization; use JSON to transfer projects.
How do I change the theme and language?
Use the header menus to select Light, Dark or Follow system and one of the ten interface languages. Follow system responds when the operating system appearance changes. Both preferences are kept in this browser when storage is available.
Changing the interface language does not rename an existing project or alter its notes. Help articles have their own English and Chinese URLs; the language link leads to the matching article.
Can I recover a cleared pattern or removed track?
Undo can recover pattern clears, track removal, instrument changes and arrangement edits in the current project’s editing history. A continuous draw or slider gesture is one undo action. Switching projects resets that history, and it is not stored in JSON. Deleting an entire project has a confirmation step and should be treated separately from editing Undo.
